ABSTRACT

Three coumarins were isolated from the CHCl3 extract of the aerial parts of Ranunculus asiaticus L. [Ranunculaceae]. They were identified as aesculetin dimethyl ether [6,7-dimethoxy-coumarin] [I], isoscopoietin [II] and scopoietin [III], based on their spectral and physical data. The cytotoxic and antiviral activities of I and III were evaluated

ABSTRACT

Two flavonoids were isolated from the ether extract of the aerial parts of C. pycnocephalus L. [Asteraceae]. They were identified as diosmetin [I] and kempferol-3-O-alpha-L-rhamnoside [II] by different spectroscopic techniques, in addition to acid hydrolysis of II, and comparison of the sugar with reference samples. Three known sterols were also isolated

ABSTRACT

The structure of desacetylnemorone, a major diterpenequinone, previously isolated from Salvia lanigera Poir., was confirmed by 13C-NMR, DEPT 135 and DEPT 90. In addition, this compound was evaluated for antimicrobial activity

ABSTRACT

Fractionation of the antimicrobial petr. extract of Salvia lanigera Poir. roots, afforded two more diterpene quinones deoxyneocryptotanshinone I and 7-oxoroyleanone II. Their structures were elucidated using 400 MHz 1H-NMR and other spectroscopic evidences

ABSTRACT

The increasing number of structurally interesting and biologically active diterpene quinones that have been discovered and still to be isolated from many members of the genus salvia calls for an update review. This article desribes the recent advances in their structural variation and distribution pattern in the different studied species
